Radon mitigation in Terrace Park, OH

More than half of Terrace Park's homes were built after World War II. The village went from 868 residents in 1940 to 2,203 in 1960, with 24 houses built in 1956 and 33 in 1957 alone, and a local history counts only 11 or so houses left from its 1890s beginnings, so most radon work here is on a postwar basement rather than a Victorian cellar. Lot width is the local wrinkle: early subdivisions were platted in 25, 30, 40, and 50-foot lots, and on the narrow ones an exterior fan and riser can land close to a neighbor's windows, which often makes an interior route to the attic the better choice. Either way, the discharge has to end above the eave and clear of nearby windows and doors.

Terrace Park covers about 1.2 square miles on the Little Miami River beside Milford, with Wooster Pike running through the village; the 1913 flood swept away nearly all of Montauk, the old industrial settlement between the two, and an earthwork built here some 2,000 years ago was among the largest of the 295 prehistoric earthworks recorded in Hamilton County.
