Radon mitigation in College Hill, OH

College Hill joined Cincinnati in stages, in 1911, 1915, and 1923. Before that it was a village, incorporated in 1866 around Farmers' College and the Ohio Female College and served by a railroad from 1851 and horsecars from the 1860s, so housing can run from village-era houses near Hamilton Avenue to streets built out long after annexation. Foundation type is a house-by-house call: older stone and brick basements tend to leak soil gas across the wall face, while later poured or block basements concentrate it at cracks, the floor-to-wall joint, and the sump. Big older houses often have basements divided into several rooms, and a pressure-field check shows whether one suction point reaches all of them or a second is needed.

College Hill runs along Hamilton Avenue (US 127) on Cincinnati's northwest side, where William Cary bought 491 acres in 1813 and 1814, and it is a different place from North College Hill, the separate city that borders it to the north.
