Radon mitigation in Hamilton Township, OH

Hamilton Township grew roughly fivefold between the 1990 and 2020 censuses. Going from about 5,900 residents to 30,587 means the typical owner-occupied house is a subdivision build from the last three decades, most often a poured basement or a slab with a sump crock, where soil gas comes in at the joint between floor and wall, around the sump lid, and at plumbing penetrations, and the sump itself is usually the natural suction point. Older houses in the township's historic crossroads communities, such as Maineville, Hopkinsville, and Fosters, are the exceptions, some with foundations that predate the growth by generations. A newer, tighter house is no reason to skip the test: EPA guidance is that new homes, old homes, and well-sealed homes can all carry elevated radon.

Hamilton Township is a Warren County township, separate from the city of Hamilton in Butler County: created in 1803 as one of Warren County's four original townships, it covers about 35 square miles in the south-central part of the county, with the village of Maineville near its center and the Little Miami River and its bike trail running through it.
